Impulse Adjustment Instrument

A New Approach to An Old Technique

The spinal adjustment is one of chiropractic care’s trademark treatments. A quick, sharp thrust to the spine can improve mobility and reduce pain in the neck and back. Although there will always be a place for manual spinal adjustments here at Midwest Chiropractic Center in Worthington, OH, we’re also bringing in new technology to make adjustments more precise and effective: the impulse adjustment instrument.

The impulse instrument delivers a gentle pulse to the affected area, helping to adjust your spine back into alignment. It’s faster than a manual adjustment and allows our chiropractor to zero in on the exact area of impairment, ensuring a safer, more targeted treatment.

What Conditions Can an Impulse Adjustment Treat?

Any condition that benefits from a manual adjustment will benefit from an impulse adjustment. We can help you with the following conditions:

  • Lower back pain (both chronic and acute)
  • Neck pain
  • Whiplash
  • Cervicogenic headaches
  • Sciatica

Spinal adjustments work by correcting misalignments in your spine. These misalignments can radiate and impact your spine’s motion and your body’s overall function. One of the benefits of an impulse adjustment over a manual adjustment is that it allows us to specifically target those misalignments, something that’s difficult to do with a manual adjustment.

What to Expect During an Impulse Adjustment

An impulse-assisted spinal adjustment at Midwest Chiropractic Center is quick and painless. Our doctor will start with a comprehensive exam to help us better understand your condition and to identify areas of impairment.

We’ll then ask you to sit or lay down and get comfortable. We might lead you through breathing exercises to relax.

Once you’re ready, we’ll press the impulse adjusting instrument (which looks a bit like a glue gun) against your spine. The instrument will then deliver several quick, targeted pulses to perform the adjustment. Unlike in a manual adjustment, you will not hear any popping or cracking sounds!

Afterward, we can begin additional treatments, such as corrective exercises or soft tissue manipulation.
