Sports Medicine for Pain Relief And Healing
Sports medicine is dedicated to healing and managing the musculoskeletal pains that are typically incurred in sports injuries. It is common practice for athletes to continually keep pushing themselves, always trying to reach the next goal, or to improve their physical performance. Unfortunately, sometimes you may push a little bit too hard. On the other hand, perhaps your sports injury is not due to pushing too hard, but it is instead due to a sudden collision with another player or a simple mis-step. Sports injuries can happen in so many ways, but the one thing that they all have in common is that some type of musculoskeletal pain will be the result.
A sports injury will generally involve damage to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, or to the fascia that connects them. The results of such an injury may include a strain (a tendon injury,) a sprain (a ligament injury,) knee pain, or back pain. Sprains often occur due to excess pressure to the joints -- often when a joint has been forced into an unnatural angle. A strain generally happens when a muscle is pulled or stretched too far, and for that reason you will sometimes hear a strain referred to as a pulled muscle. A torn ligament may happen when you suffer from a collision, when you trip, or when your leg or knee is forced into an unnatural position.
Any sports injuries are going to cause pain, which may include knee pain, back pain, shoulder pain, or pain in any area where the injury originated. Additional symptoms may be swelling at the site of the injury, bruising, or inflammation. The treatment for a sports injury will depend upon the injury itself, but with the adherence to a chiropractic sports medicine regimen, healing can be remarkably rapid.
Our Columbus chiropractors will generally start with treating sports injuries like strains, sprains, and knee pain by evaluating your specific problem followed by gentle chiropractic manipulation that is designed to reduce pain. We work on stopping the injury right at its place or origin, so that the problem itself is treated, rather than merely medicating the results of the problem.
We will also provide our Columbus sports injury patients with specific corrective exercise plans that are designed to strengthen and rehab damaged muscles, tendons, and ligaments. If you suffer from knee pain, a back injury, a shoulder injury, or any sports-related injury, we are here to help!
